Pipestone Summer Music Camp begins July 29

The Pipestone Summer Music Camp is a fun, high-energy week of music education, held at the Methow Valley Community Center held July 29-Aug. 2, culminating in a public performance in the community center gym on the final day.

Scheduled in conjunction with the Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival, the camp offers students the opportunity to listen to open rehearsals and receive coaching from visiting festival musicians.

The camp is divided into two sections. The String Orchestra section is held each day from 9:30am-2pm, and is designed for children eight and older who have played at least one year and competently read music in first position. The Chamber Music section is held from 12:15-5pm each day for students who have played a minimum of three years and read music fluently. This portion is open to string, winds, brass and guitar.

The music camp faculty is comprised of accomplished local and visiting musicians and dedicated teachers. Strings instructors are Pam Hunt, co-founder and musical director of Pipestone School of Music and a registered Suzuki teacher; and Tara Weaver, who conducts the Pipestone Orchestra and has extensive experience as an instructor and performer.

Terry Hunt, a composer, teacher, performer and co-founder of Pipestone School of Music, will teach guitar. Molly Filer, a graduate of Manhattan School of Music, teaches flute; and Mike Harvey, a trombone player who has played classical and jazz music with many orchestras, bands and ensembles, instructs brass.
